New Carpentry Crew Builds Chick Coop

New Carpentry Crew Builds Chick Coop

Our new carpentry crew is busy at work building a chick coop for the new chicks that will arrive to Hopewell in the spring. In time, these chicks will provide Hopewell's free-range eggs to be sold at our Hopewell store.

As a result of a generous grant from The Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Foundation and the increased interest among our residents to participate in carpentry, Hopewell has recently added this crew to our vocational opportunities.

Participants will learn how to successfully build a project from start to finish. This includes learning how to create drawing plans, materials lists, project budgets and shop for materials. Finally, the residents will acquire the hands-on skills needed to create the project – and eventually gain future off-campus work or volunteer opportunities.
